I really wanted to stay on the blog train daily here at the Winter Olympics, not only for everyone keeping up with my travels, but as a record of this experience for myself later on in life. I must confess, however, that this is the second entry I’m posting a day late. Lack of sleep is taking a toll on not only my day-to-day health, but everyone that I’m working with. To complicate matters, myself and several members of the team have come down with what we’re dubbing, “The Russian Fluuuuuuu.” Cue ominous, foreboding orchestral music, something like Tchaikovsky’s Marche Slave?

Kaitlyn Farrington (USA) drops in for her second run in the ladies’ half pipe semifinal during the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park.
Today landed me back at the Extreme Park for ladies’ halfpipe qualifications and finals. Since I shot the men’s events yesterday from the ground, I decided to get out the crampons and take the long climb up on the deck to get up close and personal with the athletes as they competed.

I was excited to return to my extreme sports roots today by shooting men’s halfpipe qualifications and finals. My previous experience at the Winter X Games was one of the reasons I was brought on to the Olympics in the first place, so being back at the halfpipe was comfortable territory.

Today was a pretty unremarkable day for me at the Winter Olympics, at least photo wise. I covered the men’s moguls qualification and final rounds up at the Extreme Park, and while I thought I did a solid job of covering the event, I didn’t make any artistic photos that I was happy with. I was in good spirits today, however, and enjoyed what would be considered a balmy evening by Chicago standards.
