Sochi 2014: Routine Broken

Callum Smith (GBR) lays at the finish line after the men’s skiathlon during the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games at Laura Cross-Country Ski and Biathlon Center.

With almost a week of the Olympics routine under my belt here in Sochi, I’ve definitely started to fall into a routine. Between the shuttle bus ride to the media center, to getting gear from my locker in the press center, to eating lunch before I grab another shuttle to my venue, things tend to take on somewhat of a Groundhog Day feel with multiple day shoots like this. Throw a different venue and two completely new sports into the mix, however, and things can get shaken up pretty quickly.

Sochi 2014: The Olympics Burn

Justine Dufour-Lapointe (CAN) celebrates winning gold in ladies’ moguls finals at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park.

Sochi 2014: Competiton Begins

France’s Perrine Laffont during the ladies’ freestyle skiing moguls of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park. The odd look of this panning shot was caused by a volunteer with a brightly colored jacket (at right) passing between the skier I was following through the air and my camera.

Most people would assume that the opening ceremonies for the Winter Olympics would mark the official start of competition. They’d be wrong. The opening ceremonies are tomorrow, and competition started today. Most people would also assume that checking three bags for a transatlantic flight would result in all three of said bags arriving at your destination. They’d also be wrong, as my colleague Kevin Jairaj found out the hard way.
